For one person, could I live on $64,000 a year? In this scenario I would be renting an apartment and driving a paid for vechicle.?

    That's a lot of money. If your rent is not too high (like not over $1600 or so, then you will have plenty of money to live off in one year.

    That depends on where you live.

    Where I am in Florida, a single person could live comfortably on $64K a year, as long as he sticks to a budget.

    Sure. Some areas are more expensive than others (much more) but it's above the national average in most locations in the US.

    It depends on where you live, but in the vast majority of the US that would allow you to have a pretty pleasant lifestyle and still save for retirement.

    Half of the US lives on less than that. They also own homes, cars and fund their retirement accounts. It all depends on where you live. You did not say where you live, but here where I live in NY state, 64K is a lot of money to earn...
