if you have Anything that has been in the fridge for 5 years, it is time to clean it out-Completely.

Don't be cheap, throw it away and get a new one at your supermarket.

As long as the can is intact (no dents or deterioration) the contents are good.

It may or may not taste fresh, but as long as the seal has not been compromised, the salsa will be safe to eat indefinitely.

All cans and jars should have an expiration date stamped on the container. Look for it on the bottom of the jar, on the label or on the edge of the lid. In any case, 5 years is way too old for most canned/jarred foods to be safe.

I would not trust it after 2 years, Somewhere on the jar there should be a freshness date Check that out. Most people will feel okay to go beyond the freshness date by a bit more time. The fact that your jar is still sealed and had been refrigerated likely helps, but I would not risk it if anything seems odd about it (lid bowed out, looks funny, smells funny, or a small sample taste is funny).
