First realize that "terms" are quantities that are separated by either a plus sign or a minus sign.
Factors are quantities that are to be either multiplied together OR divided.
You would want to isolate the TERMs having an "x" associated with them onto the same side of the equation. You must take care to keep the balance of the equation by performing like operations to BOTH sides equally.
You can factor the "x" out of the left side without changing its value. ("x" times " t" has the same value as"t" times "x").........x(t-u) has the same value as tx-ux.So we have x(t-u) = 3t,,, Now isolate the "x" on the left by dividing BOTH sides of the equation by the quantity (t-u).
Leaving the 'x" isolated......x(t-u)/ (t-u) = 3t/ (t-u). On the left side, the (t-u) in the numerator will cancel out the (t-u) in the denominator... leaving "x" by itself. Now we have x = 3t/(t-u) or x= 3t/t-u
