How to remove my ex from a car lease?

Me and my ex are on a car finance . We broke up soon after making the first down deposit and I ve been making the payments ever since. The car has been in my possession since day one and it currently still is. The insurance has been in my name and the cards on file for payment can show that from day one , it s been me making all the payments. My ex doesn t even have a drivers license. But to think that if she tries anything that she could possibly have the same right to it as me is insane. I ve tried to get her to sign her name off the title but she s been very reluctant on doing it which makes me think she would try to come after it.

According to the legal documents (the lease agreement), she does have the same rights to the vehicle as you. The only insane part is signing a lease agreement with a girlfriend as co-lessee. And if she's refusing to sign off, your suspicions are probably correct. This is one of those things you really should have thought about before the papers were signed.

If she won't sign her name off the lease agreement, your only legal option is to go through civil court. But your lease contract will probably expire before the trial date, so that might not be a practical plan.

Off the record, you might try something a little less respectable. Call her up and tell her you might have maybe parked in a handicap spot, just for under two minutes, and when you got into the vehicle and left you noticed a parking enforcement vehicle with some lady in it who looked like she was writing something. Those tickets are really expensive (you're not sure if you got caught, you're checking your mail), and the problem is you don't have that kind of cash right now. But since her name is on the lease, the city (or whatever) will come after her too for the money. And if the ticket isn't paid and the car gets towed, they'll definitely come after both lessees for the money. Again, you're not 100% sure you got caught, you're just telling her so she won't be too shocked if she starts getting calls and envelopes.

    See if that works.

As a lease at the end there is nothing. It is a rental.

The title belongs to the finance company.

Just carry on to the end.

There is nothing to come after.

The leasing company will not allow her name to be taken off of the lease. You will have to end the present lease and re-do it with only you as the lessee. Speak with the leasing company.

The fact that she doesn't have a drivers license means nothing. A drivers license is not required to sign a lease. A drivers license is only required to drive......Nothing else.

See a lawyer. You can try NOT making the payments for three months. When she gets her notice of non-payment she will CALL you.

You can't change in the middle of the lease.

Obviously the owner has the title not you since it is a lease. I doubt you can get her off the lease since she is an additional guaranteer of the lease if/when you do not pay the lease fees.

Life is hard. It's even harder when you're stupid. Unless she signs, you're stuck. You shouldn't have cheated on your ex.
