Switching to a healthier lifestyle - ALWAYS STARVING?

I decided I wanted to live healthier and in the past week, I have switched to healthier eating and exercise (mainly weight training).

Prior to this week, I d always skip breakfast. Sometimes I d even skip lunch and gorge myself at dinner (by this point I d be starving). My meals were often fast food style (i.e. burgers, chips, kebabs, really fatty and unhealthy things). Whenever I d finally eat, I d feel immensely satisfied (hunger wise).

Now I always have my three meals a day with snacks in between, most of which are high in protein (e.g. chicken or yogurt). The problem is I am NEVER satisfied now. Sometimes I eat a meal and am uncomfortably full, but less than an hour later, my stomach is gurgling and growling as if I hadn t eaten for a week (worse than when I used to skip breakfast and lunch). It s as if I never ate at all. Other times, I get no satisfaction whatsoever. Like now, I just ate a giant cucumber and a banana and my stomach is currently still gurgling. Prior to this week, I would have been comfortable.

This week I have also upped my water intake. I wish I could blame the exercise, but I ve literally only done two proper workouts so far. I m certainly not pregnant.

I m eating foods with substance (the same amount as I always have ((possibly more), but just much healthier choices).

What is going on??

Update:

I also want to add that I live a very sedentary lifestyle - I always have. I'm trying to change that with weight training and some LISS, but as I said, I'm only in the very beginning stages of implementing these changes. I don't know where my energy intake is going all of the sudden!

  • I think you are confusing gas (your stomach grumbling) with hunger. A banana and a giant cucumber will certainly stir up your GI system!

I have never agreed with three meals a day, that comes from culture not human physiology.

Go back to your one or two meals a day, but this time dont eat junk.

Some of that is a bit of withdrawal from your old terrible eating habits.

But you're still kind of starving yourself. You need a reasonable amount of fat and carbohydrates to get the sense of fullness and yes it's still healthy. A farm breakfast is a great start and should carry you a while. A sensible but ENOUGH lunch, and a modest dinner.

    Eat more.

    Eat low GI foods.

    Eat nutrient dense foods.

    Eat more proteins and fats.

Listen to your body, if you're always starving it's because your body isn't getting enough fuel.

Also, why the **** are you eating a cucumber and you realize that's mostly water, obviously that' not going to satisfy you!

Healthy choices doesn't just mean eating fruit, veg, yogurt, and chicken - you need to spend more time understanding that.

Weight training probably isn't the best for lowering your appetite. You want to get your heart rate up & keep it up 4-5 days a week.

What has worked for me is Disc Golf. I started about 6 months ago and the weight has just melted away. My appetite has decreased massively I guess because of the exercise.

I don't know if it helps but I eat Apples a lot. They fill me up, keep me from eating unhealthy and help with digestion. (I am 55)

The neat thing about disc golf is its a lot easier to continue doing because its fun. Whereas, other kinds of stuff like walking gets old quick.

    I'm 6-5 and I was about 225. Now I'm about 190 and really, I could probably lose another 10-15.

I never expected this to be a side effect but I'm glad it was.
