How to transfer data from old computer hard drive?
My computer is totally bricked. A new one is on the way. I would like to be able to get files off the old drive. Been looking for cable/adapter that will treat it as an external drive I can plug into new computer via USB. A million exist for 2.5 and 3 inch drives. Mine is a smaller SSD (from a Dell XPS). Any idea what this size drive is even called, let alone where to find an adapter?
1 AnswerAdd-ons4 months agoCan I download a bootable Windows 10 setup (disc image?) download from a Mac onto a USB drive to try to resurrect my PC? ?
I seem to have bricked my PC. Endless circles of not being able to repair anything and Windows not launching. I thought I had a bootable USB already (from when my computer first started going wonky) but it isn’t working (and the diagnostics show no OS on my PC). The only other computer in the house is a Mac. I’m assuming it’s okay to download a Windows installer since it’s just a package being moved around, but thought I would check just in case (plus it’s the husband’s Mac and I can’t get my hand on it until later anyhow).
Also, is this the right thing to download? https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/... And will there be an option to not delete my files when installing? Right now I need the files more than the computer! (I have an almost complete backup but it’s a couple weeks too old).
2 AnswersSoftware9 months agoAre there any culinary herbs that you should NOT be pinching the flowers off of?
I suppose lavender is one ;)
I'm curious because for the first time, practically all my herbs are flowering. Thanks!
3 AnswersGarden & Landscape12 months agoCan I make this meatloaf without the tomato sauce?
https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Buff... I make this all the time. 1/2 cup of tomato sauce goes in the meat mixture. From a flavor standpoint, I don't know if I'd miss tomato, but from a texture standpoint, do you think it will be too dense? I have zero other tomato products in the house except about 1/4 of a squeeze tube of tomato paste (maybe a tablespoon or two).
9 AnswersCooking & Recipes12 months agoIs there some way to find the actual time an answer was posted?
You used to be able to hover over where it says 1 Day or whatever and it would show the actual post time. That seems to be gone.
5 AnswersYahoo Answers12 months agoWhat's a good substitute for fresh ginger?
I keep reading to use allspice, cinnamon, mace, or nutmeg, but this is for a slightly asian fish dish.I do not have any other forms of ginger. I will be using cod and the dish has shiitake mushrooms and oranges. I've made it before when I had all the ingredients and it was great https://nomnompaleo.com/post/79058355292/fish-en-p...
7 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 year agoShould we be online shopping for non-essentials now or not?
I'm torn. On one side - it will help keep jobs and the economy going. On the other side - my privilege that allows me to stay home safely and shop puts other people's health at stake (manufacturing plant, trucking, warehouse, delivery).
3 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 year agoWhen I'm registering on a new website and it gives me the opportunity to sign up with Facebook or Google or Twitter - isn't that dangerous?
Am I wrong in thinking that is essentially the same as using the same password for multiple sites - a big no-no? If it doesn't compromise security, how is it different?
1 AnswerOther - Internet1 year agoIs there a computer comparison website where you can plug in various computers for a side by side comparison? Also - recommendations?
A site you can plug specific models into to compare them. It's so damn hard to go manufacturer website to manufacturer website because the presentations are practically apples to oranges.
As for a recommendation, I am NOT looking for a cheap laptop - I know I'm easily going to be in the $3,000 range. I need a great processor, would like 64GB ram, minimum of 1TB SSD drive, UHD display (3840 x 2160), Thunderbolt 3 port. And lightweight! That's the monkey wrench. I'm looking at MacBook Pro 16 and Dell XPS 15
1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks1 year agoIs the "Yahoo Answers Team" that asks a ton of stupid questions all at once really from Yahoo? Or is it just bad trolling?
https://answers.yahoo.com/activity/questions?show=...
Whatever it is, I think it's just awful and totally cheapens the site. There is no appeal for me to just answer a random question - I actually like (gasp) helping people out!
3 AnswersYahoo Answers2 years agoI can't do anything on the site?
Including answering this question from someone else having the same problem! https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20190... I've tried multiple browsers, signed in and out and all I can do is ask a question.
4 AnswersYahoo Answers2 years agoCan I sell "cash only" at a yard sale? Or is everyone doing Venmo and PayPal and whatever?
For expensive stuff ($100+), I'd take those over a check, but I feel like it's a massive time suck to have to go to my phone and make sure it all went through vs working cash out of a pouch. If I need to go digital - are those the two I should be prepared to use or are there other better ones?
7 AnswersOther - Home & Garden2 years agoWhat are good websites to advertise yard sales?
I'll do Craig's List and Nextdoor. I've Googled this and there are too many things to wade through and figure out which are both legit and work (as in have a viewership). I have a lot of photos to post, so need that ability and don't want to waste time doing all that work on a site that no one looks at! I'm in Los Angeles if you know of any local-specific stuff as well. Thanks!
PS I did try to search this question since I know it has been asked before, but the search on YA sucks and even though I set it "by date" it gives me answers that are a decade old.
2 AnswersOther - Home & Garden2 years agoWhat needs to be out of the house when doing heat treatment for termites?
We are not going to fumigate - our possessions and all the living things growing up to and on the walls just makes it something we don't want to do. Looking at spot chemicals (and non-chemicals) as well as heat treatment. We would not do the whole house, just a couple of the bedrooms and one corner of the living room. What I can't find anywhere is what we need to take out of those rooms. As in - what might melt or be damaged in 140 degree temperatures! I suspect the treatment companies may have some insight, but I'm still in the process of getting inspections and bids. Maybe someone has a list from having it done or will have better luck searching it up on the internet. Thanks!
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs2 years agoIf someone has me blocked, I know I can't answer their questions, but can I comment on their answers?
I'm new to this being blocked thing - seemed to have pissed someone off mightily. I assume I can see their answers? But am I able to comment on their answers or is that part of the whole blocking thing?
7 AnswersYahoo Answers2 years agoWhy can't I see answers to my questions??
This is not the first time this has happened, but it's the most frustrating because I really want to award a Best Answer! I get a notification in my notification list that there is an answer. Fortunately I can see the whole answer there and WOOHOO someone solved my problem. But when I go to the question, it shows no answers.
I had this happen on another question not long ago and it showed one or two answers and not the other two. What the heck is up?
This was the question if you want to tell me what you see! https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20190...
7 AnswersYahoo Answers2 years agoHow can I adjust the color of the links I have been to on Chrome or Firefox?
Untouched links are blue, once I've clicked on them, they become purple. But the two colors are so similar I have a really hard time telling them apart. I've prowled through both browsers' setting but have not found where to change this. I have tried different "themes" but to no avail.
1 AnswerOther - Internet2 years agoI'm looking for suggestions for an elegant font with some weight.?
Which is almost an oxymoron, but I think something like that should exist.
It's for awards graphics - using a sparkly diamond layer style - hence the need for some weight. Honestly - it could be serif (maybe - not sure about the thickness of the outline on the serifs, but I'd try), sans serif or script.
The picture is approximately the layer look I'm doing (and it's using Lobster - close, but no cigar).
I'd probably prefer a paid font to guarantee it's well made, but don't want to go over $30. An awesome free font is certainly worth me testing!
Any thoughts?
2 AnswersOther - Visual Arts2 years agoProblem with composting eggshells. Do you have the answer?
I just have a 2 sided spinner composter. It does get hot enough to make good compost, but it's not like a giant steaming pile. So...
I know eggshells are supposed to be great in compost and I crush them up a bit and throw them in all the time. Problem is that they often end up creating big solid clumps that I can't even get through the strainer. They kind of look like owl poop when they crap out animal skeletons.
So - my thought is to wash off the albumen before throwing in the bin. I've been doing it a short time - not long enough to see the results - but I'm wondering if A) anyone else does this and B) if by getting rid of the albumen, I'm actually getting rid of the good stuff for the compost?
Thanks!
4 AnswersGarden & Landscape2 years agoI need some less well known, but still great, Christmas music!?
I already have a killer collection, but I like to add some new songs each year. Not terribly interested in comedy stuff. Please include the artist with the song name - pretty much every regular Christmas song has been recorded by a gazillion artists and I'd like to know the good ones. I'm open to all types of music from country to punk to whatever!
