eva rebuild movies?
sooooo i have seen the anime series of neon genesis evangelion, read the manga, and seen the end of eva, and I was wondering if I have to watch the first 2 rebuild movies in order to see the 3rd. from what i know the first is basically a recap, and the second changes a lot of the psychological elements and makes it more harem-like and i am really not interested in seeing that. also why tf did they change asuka's surname?

Uh... I dunno where you got the informations, but those were wrong...
EVA 1.0 was basically the same as the TV series up until the 6th episode.
EVA 2.0 were starting to derivate from the TV series, with lots if crucial changes in the story. Some of the changes were the introduction of a new character Mari, Asuka's appearance, the Unit 03 test stuff, and the outcome of the fight against Zeruel.
If you really want to watch 3.0, then you need to watch 3.0, instead of relying on the TV series. Because 3.0 was a direct sequel of 2.0, and tells a whole different story compared from the TV version. You'll ended up asking "WTH with this story" if you watch the TV instead of 2.0.
As for Asuka's name, it was for the sake of consistency, since all of the female EVA pilots have a naval-esque stuffs in their names (Ayanami/Nakiami/Shikinami).
