can a insurance company split up your lump sum check?

i was suppose to get a large check but they paying me small checks, can they do this?

    What are we talking about here? If life insurance and the deceased structured the payout intentionally...no.

    If for property insurance, they would pay out the Actual Cash Value of the property and then, when you actually replaced your items, they send you the additional funds up to the Replacement Cost Value.

    You weren't supposed to get a large lump sum...you just assumed you would be getting one.
