heat of vaporization of water is 2256 kJ/kg
density of fresh water at 20C = 0.998 g/cm³
= 998 kg/m³ = 8.33 lb/gal = 62.1 lb/ft³
1 MJ can vaporize this much water:
1 MJ = 2256 kJ/kg x M kg
M = 1000/2256 kg
1000/2256 kg / 998 kg/m³ = 0.000444 m³
0.000444 m³ x 1000 L/m³ = 0.444 L
so 1 MJ can vaporize 0.444 L
