Nylon strings on my classical guitar tend to last longer than the steel ones on my acoustic. It depends to be honest, if you play your guitar for example every day I would say change them every month/2 months. Whereas if you don’t play it very much then the strings will last years. I usually change mine when they start to split and cut my fingers.

They show wear and they lose tone just like steel strings. How often to change them depends on several factors including how often you play and for how long, but when they lose their tone it's clearly time to change them.
