Christian: Do you believe the earth is only few thousand years old?

How does the evidence of life on earth millions of years ago equate with the Bible claim that God created life on earth recently by comparison? Starting with a deep commitment to the inerrancy of God s Word, has calculated a span of just a few thousand years, most likely close to 6000 years, since creation. The age of the earth can be estimated by taking the first five days of creation (from earth’s creation to Adam), then following the genealogies from Adam to Abraham in Genesis 5 and 11, then adding in the time from Abraham to today. Adam was created on day 6, so there were five days before him. If we add up the dates from Adam to Abraham, we get about 2,000 years, using the Masoretic Hebrew text of Genesis 5 and 11.3 Whether Christian or secular, most scholars would agree that Abraham lived about 2,000 B.C. (4,000 years ago). Historians date Abraham s biblical story around 2000 B.C., based on clues in Genesis Chapters 11 through 25. So a simple calculation is: 5 days + 2000 years + 4000 years = 6000 years.

    A day is a day!

It is the period of time it takes a planet to rotate 360 degrees on its axis.

In the opening chapters it says "There was evening and morning .....", nothing more and nothing less.

What it does not say is where the narrator was that recorded those events. If the narrator was on Venus and they were reporting on events on the earth that could have been 243 earth days- but still only one day because the narrator was on Venus.

Then there is the issue of how long did it take before Adam started counting his birthdays. That also is an indeterminate number. We only know how many years old he was after mankind was evicted from Eden.

Scientific dating is sheer guess work! Carbon 14 dating is one of several dating systems used. The thing is dirt has a half value layer for neutron radiation so any thing that is shielded by dirt will have a lower amount of what ever is being counted to determine the age.

What I know is science does not actually know how old the earth is- it is a wild *** guess!

The Bible uses terms for which values can be assumed which may be wrong and very likely are wrong because the earth is constantly shifting. A day now is not the same length of day as it was when I was born. While we can speculate on how long a year was or even a day was six thousand years in the past- there is no way to know! It was a day, and a day is a day (one complete revolution on an axis), The period it took to complete the cycle is any ones guess.

no because god is a simple fairytale for children who can't comprehend basic theories and need a "safe space"

The bible does not say that the earth is only 6,000 years old, it says that God created the heavens and the earth, full stop. Then the 6 creative days (not literal days) began!

    EARTHLY CREATIVE WORKS OF JEHOVAH

    Day No. Creative Works Texts

1 Light; division between day and night Ge 1:3-5

2 Expanse, a division between waters

beneath the expanse and waters above it Ge 1:6-8

3 Dry land; vegetation Ge 1:9-13

    4 Heavenly luminaries become discernible

    from earth Ge 1:14-19

5 Aquatic souls and flying creatures Ge 1:20-23

6 Land animals; man Ge 1:24-31

What I believe is that the age of man that was created in God's image is approximately 7000 years old I believe that before that time that Lucifer had an age the Apocrypha tells us about this the total age of the Earth and all the Ages were the Angels each got a turn amounts to about 4.7 billion years old but it takes a lot of reading of the Bible Apocrypha to add this up

They have never found a mutation that results in new information being created. Never ever, not once, not one time has that ever been proven to be even possible. Adding new information to the genome essentially is evolution. So if there is no evidence that it ever happened, there is no evidence for evolution at all. Furthermore, if there is no evidence at all that it that it is even possible since no one has ever observed it happening, there is no way to calculate an average time frame for it to occur. Therefore, a mathematical equation cannot be developed to express the time needed for this beneficial mutation that would result in the creation of new information to occur, meaning there’s no way to know how long it would take, even if it were theoretically possible. So the whole idea of it taking millions and billions of years is literally pulled out of thin air.

However, Unknown to most, a great deal of information is referred to in Genesis 1:1-2

From the Genesis 1: 1 phrase “In the beginning” we learn that is an approximate translation of the Hebrew meaning, “In a beginning which was not a beginning, sometime in eternity past” Creation of the universe occurred long before man was created and that could have occurred millions of years before the creation of man.

So , “in a beginning that was not a beginning (according to the Hebrew),the universe was created , including planet earth. In eternity past, there were no angels; but at a point in eternity, angels were created. There was an indefinite period of time between the creation of the angels and the creation of man. During that period of time, the earth became chaotic due to events that occurred between the angels (Isaiah 14:12-17). Before the creation of man, the earth was restored by God (Genesis 1:2).

In a beginning which was not a beginning, in a segment of eternity past, God created the heavens and the earth and original plant and animal life. After that came the creation of angels and lastly the creation of man.

Original creation therefore occurred before the creation of angels. The angelic conflict and God’s judgment on the rebellious angels caused the earth in its original creation according to Hebrew to become a desolate, empty wasteland (Genesis 1: 2) with only fossils and a few bones.

The darkness that was on the face of the deep in Genesis 1:2 according to Hebrew means a darkness that keeps out light and therefore also heat. The deep in Hebrew means raging, disturbed, stormy waters . This indicates that the earth was destroyed by the raging waters during the pre-Adamic conflict.

From the Hebrew we find that this water was then frozen, packing the earth in ice and in total darkness due to the destruction of the pre-Adamic earth which was directly related to the fall of Satan and the angelic conflict.

During the restoration of the earth, according to the Hebrew , light which produces heat, melted the ice surrounding the desolate, empty wasteland of the earth of original creation.

The period referred to in Genesis 1:3-31 is not a description of original creation but instead refers to the preparation of the earth for habitation.

Scientists estimate that the earth is about 4 billion years old and that the universe was born some 13 to 14 billion years ago.

The Bible sets no date for the creation of the universe. In no place does it affirm that the earth is only a few thousand years old. The very first verse in the Bible reads: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) That general statement allows scientists to determine the age of the physical world according to sound scientific principles.

The planet’s coming into existence is recounted in the Bible with the simple statement: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Ge 1:1) Just how long ago the starry heavens and the earth were created is not stated in the Bible. Therefore, there is no basis for Bible scholars to take issue with scientific calculations of the age of the planet. Scientists estimate the age of some rocks as being three and a half billion years, and the earth itself as being about four to four and a half billion or more years.

As to time, the Scriptures are more definite about the six creative days of the Genesis account. These days have to do, not with the creation of earth’s matter or material, but with the arranging and preparing of it for man’s habitation.

Yes, but more based on observable scientific evidence than the Bible. Below contain sources.

Nope, rebel here. I'm going with about 4.5 billion years, because that is what scientific evidence shows.
