    Liquids: wetting vs non-wetting.

    Water is a liquid which is wetting. That means it exhibits capillarity due to the ability of water to be attracted to surfaces. Mercury, for example, is a non-wetting liquid. It is not attracted to the surfaces which it comes into contact.
