How do I become a pilot?
I only have a high school diploma. Would like to go to school and take some flight classes but I do not have the money to do so. From what I read. They are pretty expensive. I did just hear that the amount of pilots in the U.S. is at an all time low. So maybe that is a positive for me! Any help is appreciated

Try jumping up and down flapping your arms as fast as possible as that is as close as your receiver going to get to flying .
You need money and a really good education you appear to lack both.
And forget the Air force Royal or otherwise as they only take the Cream of the cream and going by that your just skimmed milk!

Back in the day, it used to be that pilots were really, really cool. (At least that's what I hear.) Don't get me wrong, pilots are still super cool, but not in the famous/lavish/extravagant/Hollywood way. The economy has, indeed, taken its toll on the aviation industry and airline pilots are sometimes seen as nothing more than glorified bus drivers.

You don't have the required level of qualification and you don't have the required money. A shortage of pilots isn't going to change either of those things.

Just because there's a "shortage" of fully qualified pilots doesn't mean it's any cheaper to get the training that you need to become one. If you have somewhere around $75,000 to $100,000 worth of spare change in your pocket, you too can become an airline pilot.

Get a job and save your money.
To get a private pilot certificate, which lets you fly for fun but not for pay, costs on average $10,000. To get your commercial, instrument, air transport ratings which you need to fly for the airlines, is more like ten times that. But, the airlines won't hire you without a college degree. Even the military only sends officers to flight training, which also needs a degree. Kind of a crappy job anyway. Best bet is to go to college, study something leading to a job you'll enjoy, get your private, and enjoy flying for yourself.

If you don't have the $100K to do it, it makes no difference how few pilots there are. Good luck.

The BEST way is to join the Air Force or the Navy. The military background will open a lot of doors for you in the future, Plus youll be getting paid to learn.
