Catholicism seems to stress fasting more than celebratory eating.

Fish on Fridays. Communion wafer and wine.

EASTER: lamb, taralli di pasqua (egg stuffed bread), chocolate eggs, spring vegetables

CHRISTMAS: panettone/pandoro, torrone, bombardino (egg nog)

FEAST OF ST JOSEPH: zeppoli (donut holes)

    GOOD FRIDAY: hot cross buns

However in Italy, every celebration involves delicious food!!

    Here are some specific ones:

RISOTTO FESTIVAL: in Piedmont in May

FISH FESTIVAL: Liguria in May also

LEMON FESTIVAL: in Campania in July (lemoncello, lemon sorbet)

WHITE TRUFFLE FESTIVAL: Piedmont in October

    CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL: Umbria in October

    TRUFFLE FAIR: Tuscany in November

We have been to an escargot feed - they had sausage for non snail lovers. That was Liguria. In Piemonte there was a porcini festival - with polenta. That was free but they asked for donations. This tiny little mountain town.....
