In the process of DNA → RNA → protein, translation is the second arrow. It occurs on ribosomes and is directed by mRNA with the assistance of tRNA. In translation the polypeptide/protein is synthesised as individual amino acids are added to it.

With genes you have replication, transcription and translation.

Replication: A strand of DNA copies itself

Transcription: DNA is matched with RNA to make mRNA

Translation: RNA is matched with amino acids to make proteins. Proteins basically make up the body.
