What is the larger tire size limit for a 2003 Toyota Corolla LE sedan?

Are 215/55 R15 tires too big for a 2003 model Toyota Corolla LE sedan? I see almost every one of this model wearing 205/60 R15 size instead of the factory-specified 195/60 R15 size, which is what I currently have (lower ride-height that I'm not comfy with; I need a little more ground clearance). Thanks.

Yes, 215/55R15 is most definitely too wide for your 2003 Toyota Corolla LE. Secondly, 195/65R15 91H is the OEM tire size which the engineers and designers at Toyota determined would give your Corolla the best handling, stability and control.

Going with a wider tire is not going to do you any favors. The wider tread section width tire would decrease your cornering responsiveness and reduce fuel economy. That along with throwing off your speedometer calibration makes going with such a sized tire an unwise choice.

195/65/R15 is the stock size and that doesn't leave a lot of room in the fender. 55's are going to make your speedometer read faster than actual and burn up a lot more gas, and drag on speed bumps and ride hard. Corollas are all pretty low ride height. You should have gotten a truck instead of a car you don't fit in. If you know someone with the taller wheels who will let you swap for a test drive, try that and see how it works for you. Tire shops aren't going to swap around without charging you $$$.
