Great question, was Jesus instigating evil or division? No, of course not! Rather, he wanted people to know that there would be consequences if they became his disciples. Of course, Jesus’ purpose was to teach people the truth about God, not to divide families. (John 18:37) But his disciples needed to know that it would not always be easy to follow him, especially if their close friends or family members did not accept the truth.

Jesus said that opposition from family is one of the things his followers must be willing to endure. (Matthew 10:38) In order to please him, Jesus’ disciples have endured when their families made fun of them or even rejected them. But they have gained far more than they have lost.—Read Mark 10:29, 30.

No not evil. The truth. The truth is a sword. It divides and separates. Sometimes violently. Jesus came to bring God's Truth and not everyone will embrace it. God's Truth cuts our hearts. It can divide people and separate us from each other.

Matthew 10:34-36 Jesus disciples needed to know that it would not always be easy to follow him. Jesus purpose was to teach people the truth about God, not to divide families. But his disciples needed to know that it would not always be easy to follow him, especially if their close friends or family members did not except truth. Jesus said opposition from family is one of the things his followers must be willing to endure. Even this being the case we still love them. However, we must remember our love for God and Christ need to be stronger than our love for anyone else. We must also be aware of the fact that Satan could use our love for our family to cause us to be disloyal to God. Jesus knew everyone would not except his teachings. He knew this opposition could affect the peace in the family. When he said " Do not think I came to bring peace" he wanted people to know there would be consequences if they were to become his disciples. The truth can cause a division between those who do not want to accept it.

It means that He would not IMPOSE Peace, it would have to be won. Atheists impose and kill by the millions. You are a lazy fool who wants to hate.

(Matthew 10:34) Do not think I came to bring peace to the earth; I came to bring, not peace, but a sword.

Jesus’ ministry brought divisions, even within families (Lu 12:51-53), but it was because of his adherence to, and proclamation of, God’s righteous standards and truth. Division resulted because many individuals hardened their hearts against these truths while others accepted them. (Joh 8:40, 44-47; 15:22-25; 17:14) This was unavoidable if the divine principles were to be upheld; but the blame lay with the rejecters of what was right.

How is that Evil? Oh right, because this is an Atheist trying to make sense of the Bible. Go figure. Jesus was talking about division. Separate truth from the lie. He didn't come to bring judgment among people so that peace on earth should be here.

Division, because bone-headed humans get all wrapped up in this world and defeats the reason why we are on this planet for 80-100 years.
