STARK - Most powerful family in North Westeros. Base of power: Winterfell

Patriarch: Eddard "Ned" Stark (deceased; unjustly accused of treason, beheaded by order of King Joffrey)

Matriarch: Catelyn Stark (deceased, murdered by Freys at the Red Wedding)

Robb Stark (son), briefly King in the North, murdered by Freys at the Red Wedding

Jon Snow (believed to be Bastard son of Ned Stark, became Lord Commander of the Night's Watch)

Sansa Stark (daughter): Once betrothed to Prince Joffrey, forced to marry Tyrion Lannister, carried off into exile by Lord Petyr Baelish

Arya Stark (daughter): Escaped King's Landing after her father's murder, trained as an assassin in Braavos

Brandon (Bran) Stark (son): Crippled in fall from a Winterfell tower (pushed by Jaime Lannister)

Rickon Stark (son): Escaped Winterfell with Wildling Osha when invaded by a force from Iron Islands

TARGARYEN: Former ruling family of Westeros

All killed in Robert's Rebellion (King Aerys, Prince Rheagar, heir to the Throne) except the two youngest: Viserys (son) who was a child at the time of Robert's Rebellion, and Daenerys, who was actually born when the remnants of the family escaped. Viserys and Daenerys have been in exile across the Narrow Sea, being aided and supported by allies of the Targaryen family

LANNISTER - Wealthiest family in Westeros; base of power: Casterly Rock

Patriarch: Tywin (deceased); murdered by his own son Tyrion "The Imp"

Matriarch: Joanna (deceased); died while giving birth to dwarf son Tyrion

Cersei (daughter): Married to King Robert Baratheon; but her three children were fathered by her twin brother Jaime

Jaime (son): The Kingslayer; killed King Aerys Targaryen, clearing the way for Robert Baratheon to accede to the Iron Throne

Tyrion (son): Dwarf, "The Imp", briefly Hand to King Joffrey; led the defense of King's Landing against invasion by Stannis Baratheon

BARATHEON - Ruling family of Westeros; Base of Power: King's Landing

Patriarch: Robert (The Usurper; seized Iron Throne from Targaryens; died after a dubious hunting accident which was actually orchestrated by The Lannisters)

Stannis (brother): Declared himself the true King upon Robert's death and went to open war with The Lannisters

Renly (brother): Gay lover of Loras Tyrell, also declared himself King; murdered by witchcraft of Stannis's "Red Woman", Melisandre

TULLY - Ruling family of The Riverlands, Base of Power: Riverrun

Catelyn's family, father Hoster was Lord of the Riverlands, brother Edmure forced to marry a Frey at The Red Wedding

ARRYN - Powerful family in Eastern Westeros, base of Power: The Vale

Patriarch Jon was "Lord of the Vale" and Hand of Robert Baratheon until he died under mysterious circumstances (murdered by Cersei Lannister after he discovered the truth of her children's parentage)

Lyssa - Jon Arryn's wife, sister of Catelyn (Tully) Stark

Robin - Their young son, far too weak and coddled to become "Protector of the Vale" after Jon Arryn's death

    Other Families:

FREYS - Rival family of The Tully's in central Westeros / Riverlands Base of Power: The Twins

GREYJOYS - Ruling family of the Iron Islands - Base of Power: Pyke

TYRELLS - Wealthy but weak family in South Central Westeros - Base of Power: Highgarden

MARTELLS - Exotic dark-skinned ruling family from Dorne; base of power: Sunspear

BOLTONS - Bannermen to the Stark Family in North Westeros, they turned traitor at the Red Wedding and joined with Lannisters

Far too complicated to tell you here, but if you google it and spend 5 minutes looking for that info, you'll find it.
