How long can an Amazon package be in preshipping?

Ordered a product from Amazon and it's been in preshipping status for 7 days. Why.

    Was it prime? If it was outside of prime then it could take much longer to ship. call amazon and check what’s going on. If anything I’m sure they will give you a refund and cancel the shipment.
