Who is the greatest tennis player ever?

I don't know much about tennis history but I've heard names like John McEnroe, Borg, Agassi, and more recently Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. I'm sure there are more. Who is the greatest ever? I know that people here will want to say Federer but I'm aware that the game has evolved so please take that into consideration.

I think it's Roger Federer, I think one can also make a strong case for Rod Laver and also Bill Tilden.

Don Budge, Chuck McKinley, Arthur Ashe

Lets see how Herren Federer would play with a wooden tennis racket, like a Tad/Davis or a Jack Kramer Autograph

    Steve Harvey 1963

I refuse to pick the greatest ever simply because so much changes from one era to the next. From equipment, training/trainers, coaches etc. Right now, clearly Federer is tops. But does that really make him better than Sampras, for one example?

You still have to say Federer right now. Rafa could still win several more himself. So who knows what the future holds.

Federer just won his 20th Grand Chelem title. That's the alltime record, and it'll be hard to beat because you gotta be consistant throughout your whole carrier to achieve this (there are only 4 Grand Chelem tournaments per year). He won it being 36 yo (second oldest to ever win a Grand Chelem title).

The difference between Federer and the rest is not as huge as, say, the difference between Michael Jordan and the rest. But Federer earned the Number One place IMO.

I'd add Connors to your list : has won the most tournaments' titles (149). Sampras too : has won more than Agassi during the same period.

I am. I am undefeated. Let's see McEnroe, Aggassi, Federer or Nadal be able to say that.
