Tennis strategies?
I've been watching tennis the past few years but I don't really know much about the game. Could someone tell me some of the strategies that players use? Like why do players take certain shots.

The fundamentals are consistency, placement and power. You want to consistently get the ball back and let your opponent make the error before you. Then you want to place the ball away from your opponent to make him move. This increases the probability of them making an error. Finally, the more speed and spin you place on the ball, the more difficult it is for your opponent to hit the ball back. It takes better hand-eye coordination and timing to hit a well hit ball. Next you want to hit the ball deep. Your opponent is limited in his selection of shots on a deep ball. IF he's close to the net, he can hit more severe angles into your court.
There is also less chance of hitting the ball into the net if you are standing close to the net. You can simply block the ball back with a good volley. So you want to keep your opponent deep while you command the net. Finally, you want to be aware of your opponents weakness and exploit it. If he has a poor back hand, you should hit most of your balls to his backhand. If he has a powerful forehand, you want to avoid feeding to his power. Your primary concern should be not making an error, and putting pressure on your opponent to make him make the error.

well its all about setting up your next shot. you want to hit it to them in a way that is difficult to hit bac. if all goes will the other player will barley hit it back over the net so its slow and not well planned. and then you can take advantage of it and bullet it to where they're not positioned.. you also want to keep the other player running from one side of the court to the other as much as possible. make them tired and keep them towards the edges.

I find it amusing that you've been watching the sport for years and yet you don't seem to know the very basics.
Perhaps you could ask a more specific question. No one here is going to write you a custom tennis primer.
