how good is RPG maker app for the IOS?

i want to try and make my own RPG and i want to buy the premium so i have everything i need. thing is i dont want to spend the money if it isnt what i think its going to be. so i just got questions about it listed here and depending on the answers i may get it.

1) can you create your own characters? like their looks and so on. i know you can name them and all but i want to know if you could change their looks

2) can you create your own monsters? if not what is the monster selection like? are there a lot to choose from or only a small sample size.

3) is it easy to get a handle on?

4) can you edit character and description dialogue?

basically i want to know if you have complete control and not need to work with whatever it gives you. i love using things like hero machine and things like that to make things i just dont like when they give you little to work with or dont have what your looking for.

You're probably better off going with the PC version of RPG Maker MV (available for Windows, Mac OS X & Linux) as it has a trial version so you can test it out before you spend any funds on the full version. The software has export support for Windows, Mac OS X, Android, iOS & HTML5 (yes, you can have the game run through a web browser).

If cost is a concern, you will likely want to keep an eye out for an RPG Maker Humble Bundles in the future, which typically appear during some RPG creation contests, so you can get the software (or bundle) at a heavy discount. Alternatively, keeping an eye on Steam sales can be helpful as well.

RPG maker engines are very flexible, so you can either stick with the provided / purchasable assets OR utilize your own to craft your game. While sticking to premade assets will cause your game to look a bit more "cookie cutter" in style, you don't have to reinvent everything & focus more on the bosses as well as the story you wish to tell.

Assuming you poor a lot of heart into your RPG & keep a good level of polish on it, you could attempt to sell it in the various marketplaces (Steam, Google Play, iTunes, ect.) as the RPG Maker license does allow commercialization within certain limits (you cannot modify the RPG Maker program files & you cannot utilize RPG Maker assets with other products).

Hope this sheds some light on the subject.

  • Don't buy it on mobile. Get the PC version if you're actually going to make anything.
