Frequency Homework Question.?

A tube with a cap on one end, but open at the other end, has a fundamental frequency of 134.1 Hz. The speed of sound is 343 m/s.

(a) If the cap is removed, what is the new fundamental frequency of the tube?

(b) How long is the tube?

Please include units and workings where possible.

    a)

    f = v / λ = v / (2 L)

    f' = v / λ' = v / (4 L)

    then

    f' = 1/2 f = 67.05 Hz

    b)

    f = v / λ = v / (2 L)

    L = v / (2 f)

    L = 343 / (2 * 134.1) ~ 1.28 m
