About 3 hours to strip down.

1 hour to fit the chain.

Another 3 hours to build up.

And 1 hour to test and finish.

    8 hours @ £20 an hour.

    £160 plus vat.

    Roughly £200 for labour.

The 2004 Mazda 3 2.3 engine does not have a timing belt, it has a timing chain which seldom needs replacement. The only time I mess with that chain is during an engine overhaul.

The family Ford Focus (2006) uses the same engine and it has close to 300,000 miles on it with no timing chain problems.

The water pump is a different matter and thankfully it can be replaced with out taking the timing chain off.
