What motivation did the Bible writers have to lie? How would it benefit them?

The only reason I can think of is control. Make the good people turn the other cheek by being told that their kingdom/reward awaits them after they die. All while they get enslaved as humans and accept it thinking they will be rewarded for eternity.

Sinners always object to their sin being controlled.

    correction...

    i read your question quickly...

    so i corrected this.

been a long day reading here. (filth and mire)

    sorry...

    the bible is true.

the people who say different (i have noticed) usually have their own agenda and argue that.

    sin causes such discourse.

Source(s): satan's spirit leads some people. its hard to explain unless you are aware of this. people with a negative spirit usually are easy prey to such things. lies from satan through bad teachers has cause much harm as well. i don't have to read the replies. i already know what people will write. - what is in their heart.

Lots of reasons. Control is one, but art is another.

Take Daniel, for example. The author’s works are full of historical errors that would have been obvious to anyone reading it.... much like a Tom Clancy novel is very accurate in many ways... but everyone knows that Jack Ryan was never President of the US and the main events of the novel never took place. It’s theorized that Daniel was a fantastical tale that was later taken literally by the clergy.

Your whole "premise" is flawed, false and foolhardy.

All the writers of the books in the Bible wrote under the inspiration of God's Spirit.

The scriptures are only intended for people who God's Spirit has drawn to Him ..

and the depths of knowledge in the scriptures can only be perceived if the same

Spirit is guiding the readers. That's God's own seal and safeguard against idiots.

The writing of the OT and NT were written by persons either working for the Royal family or perhaps related to them. Just anyone was not allowed to write for public consumption. They had various motivations; to control the restless masses and later for the money they could steal from the ignorant masses by collecting money for so-called priests and other rip-off jobs in the cults.

I wish people thought that I was the way, the truth, and the light and gave me all their money and would do anything I say. Do you know how easy life would be? Sex whenever you want with whoever you want, all the food you can eat, and people actually listen to you and take you seriously. And all you have to do is lie and say, "I am the way, the truth, and the light. He who believes in me will have life and have it to the full, but he who does not believe will be condemned."

Heck, I would do it, but unfortunately it makes me a bit sick to think of exploiting people's broken hearts for my own benefit like that.

The same motivation for why Muhammad dictated the Quran.

The same motivation that Joseph Smith had for writing the Book of Mormon.

There was no logical motivation for them to lie. That's the point. Proposing ludicrous reasons, like "control", doesn't float.

None, the new testament saints died rather than recant their testimonies. And you only need to check the great Hall of Faith to see that the old testament saints suffered for their faith as well...

    Read Hebrews 11:1-40
