How does a salty diet affect weight loss?

My friend is trying to lose weight, she's 5'5, 18, and 280lbs. She knows salt is bad, creating high blood pressure. But she thinks she'll be safe to eat salty-processed vegan/vegetarian meat substitutes. Over the past year she's gone completely vegetarian & stopped drinking soda but has only lost about 6 pounds.

Have her try to work with a nutritionist. If she wants to eat vegan she can loose weight, BUT, the only way to eat vegan and get/stay healthy, is to avoid the substitutes! Vegan is not a healthy alternative to eating meat, I am not a doctor, but in almost every case where someone went vegan and lost weight, it had nothing to do with not eating meat, it was more like going vegan meant they were eating less mcdonalds food...

diet foods contribute to weight gain. Salt affects the osmolarity of the water in your body. more salt more water retention. she needs to eat green leafy things and fruits and veggies, fresh or frozen, not canned. Canned has more salt. no big meals past 5 pm or within 2 hours of bedtime. no caffeine, no cheese, no alcohol.

Salt can make you eat more/ not become desensitized or habituated easily.

It's not only what she eats, it's how much. Salty foods make her retain fluid and are not good for her blood pressure, especially being that overweight. If she was really on a health plan, she would have lost much more than 6 lbs. in a year. Most meat substitutes are made with grains aka carbs. She needs to look at the calorie count of what she consumes. Exercise will help too.

Being Vegan is not the best way to lose weight.
