M1 (19 Ω) and M2 (17 Ω) are connected in parallel to the same 120V. What total power is supplied to the two when both are turned on?

    As BR42 says, or

    19 ohms in parallel with 17 ohms

    1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2

    1/Rt = 1/19 + 1/17

    Rt = 8.97222222 ohms

    P = E²/R = 120² / 8.97222222 = 1605 watts

    For the first P = E²/R = 120²/19 = 758 watts

    for the second, P = 120²/17 = 847 watts

    total is the sum, 1605 watts
