How much do you know about diabetes?

I was wondering about your general view of diabetics and diabetes.

I know about both type 1 and type 2 since I have some close relatives that have diabetes.

My general view is that people need to stop blaming the diabetic for being a diabetic.

It can happen to anyone no matter how healthy they think they are or how well they think they are eating.

When diabetes is well controlled, the diabetic can have a very normal life with very few health complications and only a few inconveniences caused by the need to take medication or the need to check sugar levels.

When diabetes is poorly managed, the complications can be life changing and life shortening.

I know that the American Diabetes Association receives funding from companies that distribute foods high in GI, and are giving millions of people diabetes. I know that diabetes wasn't an issue 100 years ago, and people need to think about what they put into their bodies. It isn't genetic/biological but actually our diets. & unfortunately it begins in childhood so it isn't always the individual's fault. We need to be more careful of what we feed our children.

One type is genetic and the other is caused by lifestyle.

    Thirsty,. It makes you thirsty.

It's your body telling you you've damaged it with sugar!!

Not enough! My brother has type 1 diabetes, he was diagnosed 3 years ago, and even he doesn't understand it! He doesn't realise how dangerous it is, he doesn't take his insulin most of the time!
