I was broke at age 49 after the divorce. Down to a net worth of $8,000. But hard work, sensible investing inspired by the Economist magazine, dabbling in Las Vegas real estate, directing my own investing and in spite of advice, timing the market and spending money like I was already retired (except for $200K for my daughter's doctorate) and after paying ALL taxes required on the way, at age 66, I have a 7 figure net worth and do almost as well as when I worked.
