You don't own your domain name.
The question is WHY is the hosting company holding it hostage?
Do you owe them money?
Did you register the domain name thru them or a separate registrar?
Has the domain name expired or getting ready to?
Have you looked at the hosting terms of service? Quite often this would be covered there.
