How to solve polynomial equation?

Please help me solve. I am confused.

y=(x-3)(2x+1)(x-1)

    What do you want to do with y=(x-3)(2x+1)(x-1) ?

    It is a function and not the equation. The equation should end with = sign.

    Assuming you want the zeros

    x = -1/2, 1, 3

    Solve what x is when y=0.

    (x-3)=0 ---> x = 3

    (2x+1)=0 ---> x = -1/2

    (x-1)=0 ----> x = 1
