My family's American ancestry is short as I am only 2nd generation born in the US..My grandparents on both sides immigrated from Russia in the late 1800's. My parents were born here and so were my siblings and I but thats it.

On my husbands side, his grandmother has a bloodline that goes back to the original passengers on the Mayflower..sadly hubby wasn't alive when I discovered this. He would have gotten a kick out of it.

AND yes, I am proud to be an American.

Most of my Ancestors came over on ships--some were already here--what they did I have no control over-- I was not here prior to my date of birth.

No.Not really. Whatever ancestors did or were, they are nothing to be proud of because it was nothing I had anything to do with. People who want to take pride in their ethnic group or color are losers who never accomplish anything themselves.

One of mine was here in 1623, 153 years before the founding of the country in 1776. Some of my ancestors fought bravely in assorted wars, some stayed faithful to their wives for 50 years, some kept slaves, some made their own whisky. I'm neither proud nor ashamed of anything they did. They are them, I am me. I am proud of some of the things I have done, and ashamed of others.
