I place the eggs in a pan of water, with enough water to come up over the eggs by at least 1 to 2 inches.
Bring the water to a boil, place a lid on the pan and remove it from the heat.
Time 12 to 15 minutes for large eggs then drain and run cool/cold water over the eggs and let them cool in the water.
Refrigerate if you don't plan on using them right away

Start eggs in Cold tap water. Bring to boil, take off heat and cover for 10 minutes. Rinse in cold water and let cool completely. Tap the top and the bottom to break the shell. Peel under running cold water.

If you want boiled eggs without a green film around the yolk, do what ckngbbbls says to do. I have big bowl of ice water ready to put them in to stop the cooking too.

put egg in water, put on to boil...depending on your stove, the time it takes varies. Once boiling, cover and remove from heat..wait 10 minutes...drain...perfect boiled egg, no green ring or gray yolk.

Here's how to make a perfectly boiled egg. Ready?
First, make sure you have fresh eggs. Get your water to a medium simmer, and while you're waiting, poke a pin hole in the bottom of your eggs. This allows the methane and sulfur gas within the egg to escape. Whenever you see a boiled egg with gray around the yoke, the methane and sulfur gas caused the discoloration. When the water is simmering drop the egg in for 10 minutes, and while you're waiting get an ice bath ready. At the 10 minutes mark, drain the water from the pot, and shake the eggs for a few seconds, firmly, but not too hard, to break up the shell, and drop them into the ice bath cease the cooking process. After about 10 seconds take the eggs out and peel them. They should come out of the shell with great ease.
There you go.
