Do you have any painting tips that will get the job done faster?

I was just hired to paint professionally. I have done plenty on my own, but I know I do not get the job done as fast as they want. They gave an estimate based on the office we were in and I was honest saying that's faster than I currently finish but that I would work on it.

Any tips?

Update:

meaning hired by a large company to paint every day for 8 hrs.. make sense there Steven F?

If you need to get it done faster, hire someone to help you.

This is what my professional painter does:

Write a contract stating specifically what you will provide...and not provide, and what you will do... and not do.

Take pictures before you be gin.

Cover the floor and any furniture that cannot be removed from the room (if you move the furniture, it should be an extra charge).

    Clean the walls before painting.

Cover the walkways between the painting area and the exterior door.

Mend (patch, spackle, sand, etc.) any defects in the wall.

Prime, if needed, including areas you repaired.

Paint the ceiling, then the walls, then the trim, taping off any area that is not to be painted.

Clean up EVERYTHING. This includes inspecting for spatter.

Leave the customer a small container of each paint you use, in case they need to do a touch-up. Label the containers with the color, brand, and where you used it (ceiling, walls, or trim).

    Take pictures.

if you use an internal vent you have to make sure that the flue vented gasses cannot seep into any internal rooms... it would be much better to use the outside wall

NO, you were NOT hired to paint professionally. Someone that doesn't want to pay a professional hired you to paint. The fact you can THINK up this question, much less actually POST it on a public website proves you are not a professional, regardless of how much you get paid.

Actually, a REAL professional isn't concerned about fast. They are concerned about done RIGHT, which usually means not fast.
