How can I enjoy reading?
I have to read these two huge books for a summer assignment, but I just can't keep a book open for more than like 5 minutes. It's just so boring. I wish that I would enjoy reading, but I just can't figure out how. How do i fix this? I know I will have to read a lot next year in college so I need to start reading more now.

It really depends on what types of books you like. For instance, I only like fantasy and realistic fiction is supper boring to me. I find it helpful to imagine the story as I'm reading it.

You will find it more fun if you take a ballpoint pen, and as you read each page - underline the sentences which you think are the best ones on that page.

No one can teach anyone to enjoy something, either you enjoy it or you don't. As a college student you're going have many reading assignments. You don't have to enjoy everything you read. You're not assigned topics to read for enjoyment, you're to learn from them. If you happen to enjoy what you're reading, that's icing on the cake.

Don't worry about enjoying it. Presumably you will have to answer questions/write essays/give some indication that you actually did read the books - sit at a desk or a table, with the book, a notebook and a pencil and make notes on the plot, the characters, the writing style - anything that you know from previous experience you might be asked about as you read (make sure you note page numbers).
If you can only do it for literally five minutes at a time it's going to take you quite a while, so start now. Try, at least, to make it five minutes several times a day.
At the end of each day type up your notes. When you have finished check what you've written to make sure you still understand it, print off the pages and put them in a file so you can take it with you at the beginning of the new term.

Sadly, it's probably too late for you. Your parents did you a great disservice by failing to instill a love of reading in you from a young age. It wouldn't be completely impossible for you to turn it around now, but the odds are against you. What have you been doing your entire life if you haven't been reading? How many countless hours have you pissed away in front of a telly or with a game controller or a smartphone glued to your hands? You're in for a very, very rough time. Thank mum and da for that and don't make the same mistake if you ever have kids of your own.

If all you can read is 5 minutes, at a time, that's ok. Figure out how many pages you need to read a day in order to finish on time. Take breaks and refresh yourself. It's hard for me to enjoy books I'm forced to read, and I love reading.

Don't try to enjoy it. You know that you have to read "these two huge books", so git ta readin'.
