I always wonder why the church says you have to hate gays. They carry on that it is such a sin but if that is true then why are people who are friendly and understanding of gays looked down upon by society as it is not a sin to be a friend to a gay person. The Catholic church has a shocking record of priests being sexual with small boys and not so small boys, yet many of those priests would have preached that gay sex acts were sins and an abomination. Most priests were involved in sexual acts with males or knew of others that were but never spoke up against them and in some cases even hid their sexual acts from the world which allowed the priests to keep on having sex with boys. We have had cases here where church leaders hid the fact that a priest had sexually molested small boys and just moved them to new towns and left them in positions where they could carry on molesting boys.

I don't think the church has any right to demand its followers to hate gays when it has such a shocking record of their own in this field. God and Jesus said love everyone and never said love everyone except the gays. There is no commandment in the 10 commandments that say thou shall not be gay. God made 10 laws for us to live by and none of them mention anything about gays.

Many Catholics find their Church holding positions that they don't personally endorse. They are still Catholics. Some people may refer to them as "cafeteria" Catholics, but they probably make up the majority of Catholics. Some examples of positions that many Catholics don't personally endorse include: birth control, gay marriage, and divorce and remarriage. The Catholic Church requires divorced non-Catholics who want to marry a Catholic to get an annulment even though they don't recognize the divorced non-Catholics first marriage. I know very few Catholics who support that.

Being a Catholic as much a culture as well as a belief. In the end what makes a person a Catholic is (1) being baptized, and (2) recognizing an ecclesiastical authority instituted by Jesus Christ.

No. But if you're in the Vatican 2 church, yes. Although Vatican 2 isn't Catholicism.

Strictly speaking, homosexuality is a no-no for Christians, but, a great many support it, and some denominations even have gay clergy. Even many Catholics support it. This is all despite what is actually in the Bible, and is done for various reasons - other things in the Bible that are used to support it, and what some call "common sense," i.e., the books of the Bible were written with a particular historical mindset which has changed. So, are it's rules man-made, or God-made? Scholars divide on this issue.
