Can Mad Cow disease be passed down by a parent?

Now that I'm 16 I'm really looking foward to donating blood. My concern is my parents were overseas when Mad Cow was big, so they can't donate blood. Would this make me ineligible to donate also?

    The best way to find out whether you are eligible is to go to the blood donation and answer their questions truthfully.
