Ignore the height. Convert carpet to per square foot.
$18/sq yard * 1 sq yard / 9 sq feet = $2/sq ft
area = length x width
16 ft x 12 ft = 192 sq ft
cost = area x cost per unit area
192 sq ft x $2/sq ft
= $384
notice how units cancel out to give proper answers aka “dimensional analysis”
or you convert measurements from feet to yards:
ft x 1 yard/3 ft: feet/3 = yards
sq ft / 9 = sq yards
16 ft x 12 ft = 192 sq ft / 9 (sq yd/ sq ft)
192/9 sq yards
cost = area x cost per unit area
= 192/9 sq yd x $18/sq yd
= 192(18/9) = 192 x 2 = $384

You only need the length and width to figure the area of the floor.
16 ft x 12 ft = 192 sq. ft.
Now convert that to sq. yards. (a square yard is 3 ft x 3 ft = 9 sq. ft.)
192 sq. ft. / 9 sq.ft/sq.yard
= 21 1/3 sq. yards
Then multiply that by the cost per sq. yard.
21 1/3 sq. yds * $18/sq. yd.
= $384
P.S. You could save a step realizing that $18 / 9 = $2 per sq. ft.
192 sq. ft. * $2/sq. ft. = $384

The floor is 18*12 = 216 square feet. The height does not matter.
The floor is (18/3)(12/3) = 24 square yards
24 * $18 = $432

To find the area you multiply length (16ft) by width (12ft)., You don't need the height for any part of this problem.
So the area is 16 X 12 which equals 192 square feet.
You then need to find how many yards that is (I don't know feet to yards. I am from a metric country). Then you would multiply the yards equivalent of 192 square feet by the cost of the carpet per square yard ($18). That will give you your final answer.
