A relative is going on the Inside Passage Alaska Cruise Aug 11 to 18th...man and wife team, does anyone have any suggestions?

Like What you wish you'd taken with you or what you took and did not need? Places you wish you'd seen rather than the side trips you chose? Pharmacy needs? I'd appreciate any thoughts from your PERSONAL experience. I know the sites have general suggestion lists, but that is not what I'm asking in this forum! Thanks!

I did a similar cruise with Norwegian a few years ago. We went on a whale-watching tour in Juneau that was aimed at photographers and included a short hike in the woods, which was great. We did a side excursion in Haines that involved a flat-bottomed boat for eagle watching, which was a complete bust as far as the eagles were concerned. That was probably the season - there should be tons in August, and the scenery is great. We did a duck tour and a boat tour in Ketchikan. Both were kind of meh. I don't recall the other options, but I'd recommend something other than the boat tour and duck tour. The boat tour was beautiful, but the guide spent half of his time ranting about right-wing political issues.

I'd recommend taking a jacket, even in the summer, since it gets pretty cold on the water. We were there in May and it was still pretty chilly.

In general, we had a great time. The scenery is gorgeous.
