PLEASE HELP W/ MY TRIG HW: Classifying Conics *BEST ANSWER GUARANTEED*?

The two answers I chose were circle for the first equation, and parabola for the second. Are these answers correct?

    The first is an *ellipse*, not a circle. You don't have the same coefficients in front of x² and y².

    It can be rewritten as:

    (x - 1)² / 9 + (y + 1)² / 4 = 1

    I concur with your second answer except the vertex is at (-2, 2).

    It can be rewritten as:

    y = -3(x + 2)² + 2
