Is it just for someone on trial to have a jury selected from another county?
The police officer who murdered LaQuan McDonald has requested a jury from another county in Illinois saying there will be biased against him if the jury is selected from Cook County. Does this mean he can have a jury from a rural Illinois county where the majority of people are White and heavily racist against Black people?
How is this just? Especially when given the fact that juries are routinely biased against every day Black people in courts and we are never given the option to have a jury selected from another county.
I think he should be required to have his jury selected from Cook County because that is where he committed his murder and not every person in Cook County is biased against the police.
If you can't do the time then don't do the crime.

The OJ murders were in Brentwood, NOT Beverly Hills, Both of which are just neighborhoods of the greater LA area. There ARE NOT separate courts for each neighborhood. Downtown LA is where all the courts are for the city and county of LA.

Sometimes moving the trial to another location is a good idea. Especially if it is for a crime that got a lot of publicity where it took place.
There was a high-profile murder in a town where I lived and it got an inordinate amount of publicity; everyone had an opinion about it. Yet the lawyer for the defendant never asked for a change of venue.

They usually do that when there seems to be a lot of publicity on the case and therefore a lot of opinionated people. It's done often to try to keep bias out of the decision making.

Of course. Trials are moved all the time because of negative publicity creating an unfair trial.

if his plea for a different venue is denied, this sets up his appeal. such a successful appeal means the state has to start over or not prosecute at all. it also sets up the officer to ask the appeals court to award damages [attorney's fees] because of known wrong doing on the part of the prosecutor and courts.
precedent suggests that, even if his change of venue is granted, it is unlikely to change the outcome.

The issue is that the jury can't be biased (for or against the defendant) because of what they have heard about the case. If a case has received too much publicity, then it is necessary to go to another county to find jurors who haven't heard too much.
