Why do most luxury cars come from Britain and Germany?

the only British Owned car company today is Morgan Germany owns RR and Bentley

Because Germans, British and Italians prefer really good rides and performance. I appreciate my Mercedes Benz SL 550 Roadster.

Hi so as it is about quality that costs money. this is reflected in how and the time being allowed to assemble such cars.

production line techniques don't allow for some one taking care when assembly is taking place. so you also need to pay for a man with skills as well.

Another British name is MORGAN.

Many of these makers have their origins back in Victorian or Edwardian times (1880 - 1910) where quality and fine engineering were paramount. They didn't just build something good it had to look good as well. Look up British Victorian sewer works Pump houses to see the quality of the build.

Another comparison is Britain and France built the Concorde, the USA built the 747.

I'll take a Lexus over ANY European car any day. The reliability is far superior to any other brand. That's the problem with European cars. Sure, they're luxurious and expensive, but not reliable as a rule.

Based on history, Europeans have always had great public transportation, primarily trains. Cars were considered a luxury that only wealthy people wanted and could afford. The general public didn't need cars.

By contrast, the U.S. never developed internal transportation on the scale of European countries. Common citizens wanted and needed good inexpensive cars to get around. Henry Ford gave it to them.

Therefore, Europe and the UK built cars for the wealthy and the U.S. built cars for the common man.

they at one time built nice cars back in the early 70s today it stinks and there sales show it.

Luxury things come from the basic things as well.As long as you own all these resources, you can make up your own brand as a pioneer.

US car manufacturers were asleep and allowed this to happen. They made crappy cars for many years and now are paying the price. Years ago, the Cadillac was the sign that you made it to the top. That is no longer the case.
