Free speech (at least in the US) means you have the right to express an opinion without being jailed for it by the government.
It does NOT mean:
- you can say whatever you want whenever you want and face no consequences from anyone
- you are entitled to a host or an audience...even at a university
- that this right is absolute. There are still limitations on it (no speech inciting violence, no slander/libel, no shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theatre when there's no fire, etc...)

Free speech is merely the ability to say whatever whenever.
It is not the ability to be Heard.
Free speech will be shouted Down, and the speaker Mugged by the public at large, not by the Government. A person exercising Free Speech will not disappear in the night by hand of government.
What is surprising is The place where free speech is least appreciated is the Universities.
