Why are most people critical of panhandlers who turn down food people give them because they want money instead?
You want them to get a job don't you? Giving your cold disgusting left over food to them isn't going to help them get razors, soap, deodorant and all things you need to get a job, it might make them throw up, because it might have bacteria in it from being cold, but it's not going to help them get a job, I don't think a lot of rich people are very smart, I think they've just always have been lucky enough to be given everything, Dan quail was rich and he averaged a d in college

I usually give people i feel pity for money. I also think that giving them your left overs is disguting and demeaning. U give them money, they will decide what they buy with it. If they want booz because it makes them happy who am i to tell them what to buy.

I think some people want to help, but are reluctant to give money to panhandlers because they think if they give money it will be spent on drugs or alcohol, not on razors, soap or deodorant. Having spent quite a bit of time working with homeless street people, I can tell you that, unfortunately, that's probably true in most cases. I can also tell you that what might seem like cold, disgusting leftover food to you can seem like a feast to someone who is used to dumpster diving for his next meal. So, it's not as stupid as it might seem, but it is largely a useless gesture. Personally, when confronted by a panhandler, I usually just give them money. It's not up to me to judge them, and I'm not able to solve whatever underlying problems they have that led to their being on this particular street corner. So, the best I can do is give them a $5 bill and hope that it gives them a brief respite, even if that comes from the next hit or the next bottle.

I used to give out bus transfers. When I lived in Las Vegas, sometimes I wouldn't need one and I would offer it to homeless people whom I crossed paths with on the street if they asked for money. Nobody ever turned one down.

the reason they want money is they want to buy booze and tobacco
