Are home warranty insurance plans worth it?

I never bought one. I would have never had to collect if I did. They like to deny coverage "due to neglected maintenance" or other reasons. The annual cost of the warranty + the co-pay you pay means you've probably paid for the repair out of your own pocket if you have to file a claim several years later on your AC unit for example. Since warranties are on an annual basis, after several years, your AC unit may be excluded due to its age Warranties aren't generally all inclusive. You probably have to buy a "rider" to include extra coverage (such as wiring). Damage caused by forces outside the home may probably won't be covered. Just do some research on the pitfalls of home warranties. What they advertise on TV isn't generally what you get in real life.

Generally, no.
When I bought my house, the sellers threw in home warranty coverage for a year.
Within the first few weeks the fridge died, and I lost about $100 in food.
Warranty service did not cover it.
They later got sued for failing to cover claims they were supposed to be paying, but they simply declared bankruptcy, changed their name slightly, and continued right on ripping off consumers.
Oh yeah, they're the ones that advertise on TV all the time too. AWS or whatever they call themselves now.
I'd call them a bunch of b*st*rds but I'm not the one who was paying them.

I wouldn't buy one if the house is new, but if older yes for sure. They usually run between $440 - $700.00 and are good for the first year you own the home. If the heat/air unit goes out you pay only a small deductible & if it can't be repaired they replace it. They also fix or replace appliances that go out, plumbing issues etc.

never heard a third-party ( somebody who doesn't benefit ) say anything good about them. Just like the 'extended warranty on a new car.

Not really no

Everyone I know that bought a home with a warranty has found there are too many loop holes that let the insurance company not pay when there is a claim.
