It does NOT last for a few months, it protects you for 10 years. It's the same in the UK as the US.
This covers all ages.

10 years is the norm. I will take a shot with any risk injury, needed or not.

Its suppose to be good for 10 years although after 7years or so most doctors will give you a new one.

Tetanus vaccine, also known as tetanus toxoid (TT), is an inactive vaccine used to prevent tetanus. During childhood five doses are recommended, with a sixth given during adolescence. Additional doses every 10 years are recommended. After three doses almost everyone is initially immune.
That said (and copied from google) My doctor recommends a booster every 5-7 years. These days it's coupled with a couple of others and it is called DPT, Diphtheria, Pertussis and Tetanus.
(Not sure what you mean in your comment to another response that it "only lasts a few months." A vaccine lasts many years and a booster is intended to 'boost' the effects of the vaccine already in you. )
