All of this means you two aren't communication well.
Ask him what he means by that. he may thiunk it's obvious, and quite honestly, it isn't.

If you don't have the courage to ask these scarey questions of someone, how EVER can you fix problems in any relationship once the infatuation phase wears out and the inevitable problems and conflict start?
Consider this situation you are asking about here to be a most-excellent opportunity to learn to find the courage to ask, to open up, and to perhaps hear things you might not want to hear.
The more we make-up things or fantasize about what might be going on, the more likely we will end up hurt.
