What does it mean if my boss asks me to come in on my day off?
Ok so I literally just got a new job as a machinist and I just finished my first week job n the job and today before the end of my shift my boss asks me if I wanted to come in on Sunday for like 6-2. Unfortunately I had to decline because I had made plans prior but does it mean more than just coming in? Could it mean he knows I’m a hard worker and I do a good job? What does it mean?

You say I'm sorry but I can't come in. I've all ready made plans but I will come in on my next scheduled shift. If you've all ready made plans then they should understand and move onto the next available person. You can say no once in a while. You're allowed to have some what of a life out side of work.
If they're asking you to come in he's looking for some one to cover a shift.

It means they needed someone to work OT. If there was any possibility that you could have rescheduled your plans, you should have. Do not make a habit of turning down OT when they offer it. You risk being viewed as someone who is not a part of the team. It's also really good money!

You would have gotten some overtime...they just need someone there on the weekend.

If you were needed for overtime, you could have gotten a nice check.

More than likely he was asking you to come in to work over time because there are production needs that aren't being met they need to try to get caught up with.

It means he needed someone sunday from 6-2. When I was shorthanded, I would get anyone I could...even bad workers.
