Why are my koi afraid of me?

Other people have koi and they aren't afraid of them. But mine I don't understand, they dart and swim away or try to hide when I feed. They will feed when I'm in a chair at the edge of the pond, but they grab a morsel and zip they're gone.

Assuming other factors about the pond are correct, stop overfeeding by not feeding for a while .

In a week or two try feeding smaller amounts and the fish will be much more responsive.

Then, once in a while, feed a treat food like frozen bloodworms.

But only when you stop overfeeding by tons too much.

Another possibility is that you have wild animals trying to catch and eat the koi, that can make them avoid the sides of the pond.
