well in general your trade will go through an extremely short period of time after it's potential effect on the market as a whole has been analyzed and responded to by electronic "flash traders" who specialize in maintaining extremely fast network links and so on, for the purpose of getting their trades in first.
that's what i heard last time i bothered to look into this whole "stock market" scam thing anyway
most people are best off just sticking with stuff like mutual funds i think
